Tre Bicchieri (3 glasses) 2012 – Winner
Gambero Rosso
Soave is extraordinary when it’s done right. On a recent visit to the area, I tasted a wine that blew my mind with its quality – Capitel Croce made by Anselmi from a single vineyard of Garganega grapes in Monteforte. Part fermented in oak, it’s an amazingly rich and zingy wine with almond, pear, pineapple and a long, fresh finish.

The Capitel Croce vineyard is situated on hilly terrain with southern exposure, covering just 2.5 hectares on the Zoppega hills around the town of Monteforte D'Alpone. The volcanic and rocky soil composition offers excellent drainage and yields are kept low through densely planted vines (5,000-6,000 per hectare), Guyot vine training and green harvesting. This 100% Garganega varietal is aged in used Allier barriques for 8 months.
