  • It's easy to see why this is our bestselling red, with its lovely fruit, gentle texture and no hard edges.  Well under a tenner and so very easy to drink!

Deep, still vibrant colour - hard to believe that it's over five years old. Blueberries, cherries and a little oak on the nose, leading to a very soft, medium-bodied texture in the mouth. Very gentle and rounded.

Even though it's good to go straight away, we really recommend letting it sit in the glass a few minutes (or decanting) before drinking. Doing this brings out its mellow maturity and authentic southern Italian identity.  Balancing acidity and mellow tannins mean that you can drink now or keep for 1-2 years.

Press ReviewPress

Biferno is a river in Molise, in southern Italy, and it is also the name of a DOC wine. Made predominantly from Montepulciano with some Aglianico for good measure the amazing thing about this red is that it has five years of age already under its belt and yet it is a bargain price. If you like rich, stylish, powerful reds with decent maturity then look no further, this is an extremely impressive wine.

Matthew Jukes The Daily Mail Weekend Magazine, November 2017

What a bargain! This wine is 6 years old, and is showing all the sprightly liveliness and enthusiasm of a toddler! It’s one of Great Western Wine’s perennial favourites, and it’s easy to see why. Full of savoury, black cherry, plum and wild herbs scents and flavours, it’s soft in style, yet with that characteristic Italian wild herb, and savoury edge. It’s always great to serve a wine with a story – this one’s from the region of Molise, the 2nd smallest wine region in Italy, nestled on the Adriatic coast, just above the better-known southern region of Puglia. It’s a quiet, rural area, with agriculture at its core. Made primariy from the well-known Montepulciano grape, it’s bright, vibrant, mid-weight and spot on for easy entertaining, be it party food, or more hearty fare.
