Defined black cherry on the nose with hints of rose and sandalwood. Intense, juicy palate followed by quite an oaky progression and a broad finish with a return of the sweet fruit.

Decanter Magazine, January 2013

When it's good - and 2010 is a very classy vintage in Tuscany - Chianti Classico can still deliver a lot of flavour and complexity for less than £20. That's certainly the case here, because I can't remember a better basic wine from this estate. Its texture is almost Pinot Noir-like, but with a nip of tannin to add some extra backbone. On the palate, it's silky and sweet with subtle oak and notes of dried tea, raspberry and wild strawberry. Essence of Sangiovese. 95 points

....we're talking fragrant aromas, but with a firm display of more savoury richness on the palate. Excellent complexity and a real find.

Winemaking

The vineyards are located in Fonterutoli at Castellina and La Badiola at Radda. They are all south/south west facing. The harvest took place between 7-18th October and was harvested by hand, as all the vineyard work at Fonterutoli is. After destemming, fermentation was at 30oC for 15 days for good extraction of flavour and colour. The wine spent 8-12 months in small Slovenian oak casks followed by 6 months in bottle before release.
