Product details

  • Variety

  • Originating from Barcelonnette (Hautes-Provence) and part of the Provencal nobility since 1421, the Gassier family bought Château Gassier and its 40 hectares of vines in 1982. In 2004, the Gassier and Jeanjean families decided to join forces and run the estate together. Today the vineyard is managed by Baron Georges Gassier, who represents the fifth winegrowing generation of the family, working with the support from his father. They specialise in rosé and certainly do a great job. Pale pink colour. Beguiling and elegant fruit, dry, super-smooth and balanced body. Very moreish.

Press ReviewPress

Faded copper colour and a sophisticated Mediterranean nose of fennel and herb. Structured and garrigue character backed up by raspberry fruit and a hint of creaminess. Excellent food wine; long and luxuriant, while being quietly decandent. 90-94pts, Highly Recommended.

Decanter Magazine

Minerality and a plentiful variety of red berries – think raspberries and loganberries for starters – set this wine apart, lifting it to Gold. 'Very modern style, but bright and attractive,' began team leader Annette Scarfe MW, while Sara Bacchiori of Chez Bruce noted 'greengage and herbaceous aromas, strawberry and raspberry palate with a soft, dry finish', and Julien Sahut of Sexy Fish said: 'Peach, apricot, mango and honeyscukle – well balanced.'

Gold MedalImbibe Magazine Sommelier Wine Awards 2016

Chateau Gassier ‘Le Pas du Moine’ Cotes de Provence 2016, is the wine that transports me back to the lavender fields, sleepy villages, and chic beach restaurants of Provence, although Great Western Wine have an enviably wide selection of other options also. With its ethereal pale peach colour, and entrancingly gentle flavours of wild strawberries, pomegranates, and wild provencal herbs, this award-winning wine from a family-run estate, pretty much sums up Summer in a bottle; and even more so in an impressive magnum ( big bottle), which can’t fail to impress guests and imbue the feel-good factor. Simply add tuna nicoise, and you have the Riviera on your doorstep.
