Winemaking
The chenin blanc grapes were harvested towards the end of March, crushed and fermented for four weeks at 13 degrees in stainless steel vats. Due to the naturally high levels of sugar in the grapes, after four weeks the residual sugar remained at 145 g/l. The name of this wine is a tribute to winemaker, Arco Laarman. Known to his friends as Arc's, he has also been given the nickname the Arc Welder by the staff at Glen Carlou. So, when Arco suggested he would like to make a sweet wine, the name of the wine was decided as "The Welder"!
