Wines from southern Portugal's Alentejo region can be a little jammy at times, but this complex field blend of Aragones, Syrah, Alicante Bouschet and Touriga Nacional is very sophisticated indeed. It's ripe and deeply coloured, but with complex, smoky flavours of plum and blackberrry, spicy oak, textured, well-rounded tannins and balancing acidity. 91 points

Winemaking

Grapes are hand selected on a purpose built selection table, inoculation with selected yeasts. Fermentation and maceration in 'lagares' (traditional open fermenters). Finalization of alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation and aging for 12 months in new french oak barriques. The best 23 barrels of Syrah and Touriga Nacional were selected to create this blend.
