  • Deep crimson red with youthful purple hues, a dark heart indicates great concentration. The nose bursts with ripe fruits - raspberry, dark cherries and cassis blackcurrants with chocolate cake richness. This is the definitive fruit driven wine. The classic Margaret River mintiness is evident but with no eucalypt or vegetal tones. The palate bursts with up front ripe flavour, sweet fruit flavours of considerable length are tempered by firm tannin. This is a great wine to drink offering the essence of ripe Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon.

Press ReviewPress

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2011 Leston Cabernet shows a perfumed blackberry and cassis core laced with violets and roses plus a whiff of cedar. Medium to full-bodied and very purely fruited in the mouth, it is framed by firm, finely grained tannins, refreshing acid and a long spicy finish. Drink it 2014 to 2022+. 91/100

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

2011 was an excellent vintage in the Margaret River region. A warm and dry spring was followed by a summer punctuated with perfectly timed rain events but otherwise low in humidity. The autumn harvest period was dry and protracted with vintage conditions best described as on the warm side of perfect. The resulting red wines have definitive varietal expression, rich fruit power and fine tannins. Harvest of the 2011 Leston Cabernet Sauvignon occurred in late March 2011. Vinification occurred in closed stainless steel fermenters with diligent cap management to extract fine fruit tannin and strong varietal flavour. Selected parcels remained on skins post the fermentation to further enhance the tannin profile while others were pressed at dryness to capture fruit vibrancy. After pressing, each batch is matured separately in order to build a wine history over time. Barrel maturation for 18 months in 40 % new and 60% older, French oak barriques ensures the thorough integration of oak and grape tannins. The wine was blended from a selection of the best batches from the Leston vineyard. After egg white fining and light filtration, the wine was bottled in January 2013.
