Product details

  • Winemaker

    Sandro Mosele
  • Variety

    Pinot Noir
  • Almost indistinguishable from a Premier Cru Vosne Romanée, this gradually uncurls with swirling to reveal focused spicy, smokey, gamey aromas, leavened in the mouth with hints of anise and heather over succulent black cherry fruit. Well-structured, with richness and a warm, enveloping texture. Drink now-2015. Planted exclusively to Pinot Noir, the Haven Vineyard is the most sheltered site, being bordered by trees on both the North and South. The soil is loam over clay, with less sand than Meres and fewer sandstone pebbles than Ferrous. The resulting wine has opulence and structure, impeccable balance and great potential to age.

Sandro Mosele makes three single vineyard wines from his beloved pinot - Ferrous, Meres and Haven. This may sound ridiculous, but we love them all. You should try all three to see just how different a wine can be from one vineyard to the other, even though they are just yards apart. Haven is the very top of the tree, with extra levels of charm and multi layered fruit - this is what you are paying for in great pinot noir. When you find it for $45, buy it all and don't tell anyone.

Bright red. Aromas of redcurrant, pomegranate, cherry cola, rhubarb and black pepper are seductive and pure. Sweet but nicely focused, with medium weight and fresh, exuberant red berry flavors deepened by darker notes of bitter chocolate and black tea. Firmly structured on the back, with impressive persistence and lift on the aftertaste. Give this some air or a few years in the cellar to realize its potential.. 91 points
