A great result for Vina Leyda of Chile as their Neblina Vineyard Riesling 2008 came top in a blind tasting of Rieslings from all over the world for Imbibe magazine. The tasting panel, which included such luminaries as the sommeliers of Galvin La Chapelle, Etrusca and Hakkasan, were only aware that the wines were priced between £7.50 and £30, and below 10g of residual sugar, and could be from anywhere in the world. They awarded this wine the highest score overall – beating entries from many more famous regions including Alsace and Germany. Irina Atanasova of Les Deux Salons gave this note: “Alpine in style – floral, with good acidity and ripe citrus fruit, quince, apple, minerality and nuttiness.”

Beautifully aromatic, limey nose with some sweet, rich, spicy notes. The palate is rich and spicy with intense, herby, limey notes and some honeyed richness. 90/100

A powerfully floral wine with apple-pie flavours and lemon and lime characters on the palate. Nicely structured and well-balanced, this is a clean, commercial contender.
