I never expected to be writing about a spicy white wine from Alicante in southern Spain, but then the wine world is always full of surprises and that’s what makes it intriguing! I thought I knew about most wines around the world, but this one took me by surprise, and is without doubt, my new favourite for whenever I’m going to be serving or eating Indian and thai food.
It’s a real conundrum… made from the naturally sweet grape Moscatel, the guys who make this, have managed to turn it into a sassy, vibrant, off dry wine, just absolutely rocking it with flavour and style! It’s so unusual and I love it! Bold aromas of white peach, crushed grapes and honeysuckle, followed by intensely fruity flavours, packed with ripeness, yet with a zesty tangerine freshness … lively, surprisingly dry and absolutely spot on for that hot Korean Beef penang or thai fish curry… and I reckon it’s one of the few wines that would cope with a Madras! Also would work a dream with pear, stilton and walnut, or waldorf salad! It’s unusual, and I’m so excited to discover something this unexpected! I hope people will give it a try, it’s so fantastically unusual, and it’s certainly my top choice for whenever I cook Asian food this Autumn!
