Winemaking
This wine is from the legendary Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr vineyard which is an enclave in the Juffer area first planted by the Romans. Here the slope angle reaches 78%. The 1804 Napoleonic classification of the Mosel identified this as the top growth in the area, and in many a year its microclimate is the hottest in all Germany. The vines are trained in the traditional Mosel manner with two shoots tied to a single stake, forming a heart pattern. Harvest is strictly by hand on the extremely steep slopes. The grapes are brought to the winery in small containers and gently de-stemmed, crushed and pressed. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks.
