Camel Valley
Cornwall
Bob and Annie Lindo planted their first vines on the family farm on the sunny slopes above the River Camel in 1989.
Since then they have been steadily pushing the boundaries of English winemaking by combining time-honoured vineyard practices to produce the best possible grapes with state-of-the-art equipment and a forward-thinking attitude.
In recent years they have been joined by their son, Sam, who won UK winemaker of the year in 2007. Together they have been increasing the size of their vineyard, which is now just over 8 hectares.
The Bacchus grape is thriving in the English climate, and the local conditions in the Camel Valley allow the grapes to grow slowly, resulting in a beautifully balanced wine with delicate flavours and aromas.
The Lindo’s efforts with sparkling wine were rewarded when, in 2005, their Cornwall Brut, made from Seyval Blanc with a little Reichensteiner and Huxelrube, outpointed 250 Champagnes and was the only sparkling wine from outside the Champagne region to win a Gold Medal at International Wine Challenge. Since then they have continued to win medals and gain accolades from wine writers including Matthew Jukes, Oz Clarke and Tom Stevenson.
