Bordeaux
Château Picque Caillou
Pessac Leognan
Along with famous names such as Haut-Brion and Mission Haut-Brion, this is one of the few surviving wine estates in the Bordeaux suburbs under the Pessac Léognan appellation and it was one of our first buys in Bordeaux many years ago when under the ownership of the Denis family.
Once part of the famous Luchey vineyard which supplied Napoleon Bonaparte with his favourite Graves wines, it is now owned by our friend Paulin Calvet who married Monsieur Denis’ daughter and brings his years of experience in the Bordeaux market to bear on both winemaking and marketing.
The wine is supple and delicious, and tends to drink very well at 3-5 years old, while being equally happy to age a decade or longer.
