Patrick and Christophe Bonnefond

Côte Rôtie

Domaine Bonnefond is a shining example of the results that can be achieved with a combination of superb vineyard sites and a passion for excellence and attention to detail in making the wine. The estate consists of a mere 6 hectares on Côte Rôtie's Côte Brune, as well as a small vineyard of younger vines above the precipice for the production of the Vin de Pays. Patrick and Christophe Bonnefond also own a little land in Condrieu, from which they make a white that is so amazingly aromatic that it can be enjoyed either young or with several years' bottle age.

The schist bedrock of the Côte Brune produces wines with more succulence, intensity and power than the Côte Blonde's granite, and all of the Bonnefond Côte Rôtie have excellent cellaring potential. However, two of the best sites, Côte Rozier and Les Rochains are bottled separately as special wines in their own right (available by prearrival offer only). These wines represent a step-up in intensity, complexity and length of flavour over the simple Côte Rôtie.
