Were your entire tasting experience of 1999 and 2000 Burgundy limited to Claude's wines, you would conclude that 2000 is the better of the two (the reverse is true). This was because from 2000 onwards Claude began to pay more attention to when his different vineyard plots ripened and plan the harvest accordingly, as well as utilising an oenologist to give him reliable data about his developing wines while staying in charge of the decision-making himself. The results are wines with improved vibrancy and accessibility when young.
