The Domaine de Nizas is the latest project for American John Goelet, who has already created Clos du Val in Napa, Taltarni in Australia and Clover Hill in Tasmania.

Convinced by the potential of the best sites in the Languedoc John, and Bernard Portet, the President of Clos du Val, identified a handful of exceptional terroir before deciding upon the 51 hectare Domaine de Nizas in 1998. Following complete restructuring of the vineyards, which included the uprooting of 26 hectares, they set about an ambitious programme of replanting and re-trellising. Renovation of the winery was completed in time for the 2001 vintage.

Accolade has followed on both sides of the Atlantic for these wines. 2007 saw the creation of a new AOC for the Pézenas area, and wines from this new appéllation will be released over the next few years.
