Domaine Gilles Robin

Crozes Hermitage

.

Gilles took over the running of this estate in 1996. With a history of winegrowing spanning four generations, his aim was to realise the potential of the 35-year-old vines. He immediately used only natural fertilizers and reduced yields to give a richer concentration of fruit and quality.

A new winery was built into the ground to allow the wines to be moved delicately by gravity, rather than being pumped. Gilles’ first vintage was so good that he won a gold medal at the Macon Fair. His 1997 made Oz Clarke’s top 12 list. 1998, 1999 and 2000 followed spectacularly and the 2001 earned the accolade of Best Red at the France Under One Roof Tasting in London.
