Burgundy

Domaine Harmand Geoffroy

Gevrey-Chambertin

The son of a diplomat, who spent his childhood in London, Gérard Harmand took over the running of this estate in Gevrey-Chambertin in the early 1990s. Under his direction, Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy has risen through Burgundy’s league table to a firm place in the premiership. Gérard understands very well that Burgundy’s strong point is that its wines offer a unique sense of place, but that they can be inaccessible to the newcomer. In light of this, he aims to make wines that are both faithful to their specific vineyard origins while possessing some fleshiness of texture and charm.

He treats the wine from each vineyard separately, constantly tasting to determine how much ‘pigeage’ is required, what sort of oak should be used, the ratio of new to used barrels and the length of barrel ageing before bottling.
