  • It's easy to see why this is our bestselling red, with its lovely fruit, gentle texture and no hard edges.  Well under a tenner and so easy to drink!

Deep, still vibrant colour - hard to believe that it's over five years old. Blueberries, cherries and new oak on the nose, leading to a very soft, medium-bodied texture in the mouth. Very gentle and rounded.

Even though it's good to go straight away, we really recommend letting it sit in the glass a few minutes (or decanting) before drinking. Doing this brings out its mellow maturity and authentic southern Italian identity, and the oak becomes better-integrated. Balancing acidity and a bit of structure mean that you can drink now or keep another 1-2 years.

What a bargain! This wine is 6 years old, and is showing all the sprightly liveliness and enthusiasm of a toddler! It’s one of Great Western Wine’s perennial favourites, and it’s easy to see why. Full of savoury, black cherry, plum and wild herbs scents and flavours, it’s soft in style, yet with that characteristic Italian wild herb, and savoury edge. It’s always great to serve a wine with a story – this one’s from the region of Molise, the 2nd smallest wine region in Italy, nestled on the Adriatic coast, just above the better-known southern region of Puglia. It’s a quiet, rural area, with agriculture at its core. Made primariy from the well-known Montepulciano grape, it’s bright, vibrant, mid-weight and spot on for easy entertaining, be it party food, or more hearty fare.

It’s a cracking wine Review by Tim

I finished a bottle of 2010, and then opened a 2009, so was able to compare side by side. I thought the 09 was a touch drier and more tannic, perhaps a better food wine. But they are both delicious. (Posted on 29/01/2016)
