    Chenin Blanc
  • Complex, full palate showing vanilla and honey flavours and a forever finish. Will age beautifully for many years. This is a premium Chenin but has more similarities to good Burgundy than to other Chenin varietals - the small proportion of botytris Chenin is evident on the nose and really lifts the aroma.

Press ReviewPress

With its deep and inviting mix of honeyed apples, honeysuckle, acacia and honeyed almonds, this rich chenin blanc has long been one of the country's best wines, and is a match for many a starrier name.

David WilliamsThe Observer

Sourced from Chenin Blanc vines planted in 1967, with natural wild yeast fermentation, and raised in about 85% new oak, the flagship FMC has a beautifully defined, intoxicating bouquet with lemon curd, frangipane, almond and just a touch of nutmeg. The palate has a rounded, waxy texture with wonderful harmony and precision. There are subtle flavours of dried apricot, brioche, vanilla, a touch of honey (perhaps a little botrytis) and a hint of spice. Seductive, harmonious and very focussed, The FMC is a sublime expression of South African Chenin Blanc. Drink now-2020. 93 out of 100.

Neal MartinWine Advocate

There are a lot of very fine South African Chenins around these days, but Ken Forrester's flagship Stellenbosch rendition retains its position near the top of the tree. It's an uncompromisingly rich, weighty and textured white, just off-dry thanks to the addition of a portion of late-harvested, botrytised wine in the final blend, and so impressive with its honeyed apple, honeysuckle, and almonds, and that lovely, crisp, green apple acidity. 93/100

The Wine Gang, April 2014

Hand selected Chenin Blanc - primarily from low yielding , old bush vines (planted in 1967). Harvested at full maturity. Natural wild yeast fermentation in new French oak 400 L barrels, using Chenin Noble Late Harvest as a blending wine. Maturation on the lees - total of 10 months in the barrel.

Gorgeous complex white Review by DMC
Finally! This is a lovely white wine that can hold up on it's own or pair with flavourful foods. The FMC is a rich and complex wine with near perfect mouthfeel and balance, not too heavy but not flinty and acidic either. A great wine for for occasions when it can be appreciated properly. A memorable wine Review by Keynshamwine
The second the aromas hit the senses you know it's a special wine. I'd read press reviews which said FMC unofficially stands for F..... Marvelous Chenin and that it was the most complex white coming out of South Africa, so I definitely wanted to try it. I included it in a blind tasting for some wine-tasting newcomers and everyone immediately realised it was a stand-out wine. That said, the rich complexity of the wine was not to everyone's taste but for those of us that did it was a revelation. The label suggests it would be great with exotic Eastern spiced foods; it also says the wine was made "to propose an icon Chenin Blanc, a challenge to the world"! I like that and I think Ken Forrester has achieved that with this memorable wine . (Posted on 20/11/2011)
