    Chenin Blanc
  • From the ‘King of Chenin’ Ken Forrester, this flagship wine is rich, seductive, and very sophisticated. Layer upon layer of candied lemon, dried apricot and vanilla, with a touch of honey and spice, effortlessly supported by gentle oak, and a lovely freshness. This wine is still showing the exuberance and nerviness of youth, and will develop and blossom even more over the next few years.

Press ReviewPress

Bright gold with green reflections. Somewhat austere nose but all the characters begin to develop then take off. Ripe apricot, honey, fynbos, yeasty notes and fine oak. Floral notes of white flowers and honeysuckle. All repeats in the mouth with deep, rich flavours on a great oak platform. Beautifully balanced. Long , extended finish. Good now but will develop with magnificence over four to six years or more.

IWSC - GOLD OUTSTANDINGInternational wine and spirirts competition 2015

Sourced from Chenin Blanc vines planted in 1967, with natural wild yeast fermentation, and raised in about 85% new oak, the flagship FMC has a beautifully defined, intoxicating bouquet with lemon curd, frangipane, almond and just a touch of nutmeg. The palate has a rounded, waxy texture with wonderful harmony and precision. There are subtle flavours of dried apricot, brioche, vanilla, a touch of honey (perhaps a little botrytis) and a hint of spice. Seductive, harmonious and very focussed, The FMC is a sublime expression of South African Chenin Blanc. Drink now-2020. 93 out of 100.

Gorgeous complex white Review by DMC

Finally! This is a lovely white wine that can hold up on it's own or pair with flavourful foods. The FMC is a rich and complex wine with near perfect mouthfeel and balance, not too heavy but not flinty and acidic either. A great wine for for occasions when it can be appreciated properly. A memorable wine Review by Keynshamwine

The second the aromas hit the senses you know it's a special wine. I'd read press reviews which said FMC unofficially stands for F..... Marvelous Chenin and that it was the most complex white coming out of South Africa, so I definitely wanted to try it. I included it in a blind tasting for some wine-tasting newcomers and everyone immediately realised it was a stand-out wine. That said, the rich complexity of the wine was not to everyone's taste but for those of us that did it was a revelation. The label suggests it would be great with exotic Eastern spiced foods; it also says the wine was made "to propose an icon Chenin Blanc, a challenge to the world"! I like that and I think Ken Forrester has achieved that with this memorable wine . (Posted on 20/11/2011)
