Product details

  • Variety

  • Chañar Punco is a unique sub-region surrounded by the Quilmes Mountains, located southwest within the Calchaquí Valley. At 2000 meters above sea level, this terroir displays unique characteristics. Poor, rocky and calcareous soil combined with the scarce heat load, radiation, in the months prior to harvest, allows the grape to slowly develop its maximum expression. A full bodied, concentrated wine rich with flavours of dark fruits, chocolate, baked plums & herbaceous notes. The palate is complex & explosive with a great concentration of flavour supported by firm, juicy tannins.

Press ReviewPress

A unanimous choice with our judges, this showed ‘big potential’ for Marek Rakowski of Harbour Heights Hotel, with ‘a lot of tannins still needing to be integrated, but rich and complex cherries and plums, lots of brown spices and an appealing jammy character’.

Concentrated bunches of small grapes selected from the best rows of the parcels are manually harvested in 18Kg plastic bins. A second selection is done in the crushing area. Pre-fermentative macerations are carried on at 7°C, and native yeasts are used for the alcoholic fermentation. Before malolactic fermentation each variety is racked into new French oak barrels of 225 litres where the fermentation process is carried on and aged for 18 months. The blend is defined after an intense selection of the best 8 barrels. Bottled without stabilization and filtration in order to maintain the essence of the wine.
