Domaine Denis Boussey

Monthélie

Tucked away in the little village of Monthélie lies Denis Boussey’s magnificent 18th Century cellar, initially recommended to us by our friend Régis Rossignol. We have always been most impressed by the quality of winemaking for both red and white wines, combining terroir with approachable fruit character, and a frank, honest overall style. Denis’ wines are commendably consistent in quality, even in poor vintages (although he says that the last 15 years have been easier than most in the 1970s). Because his wines have exciting fruit, even the Pommard is lush, textured and drinkable when young. His Meursault ‘Vieilles Vignes’ is particularly delicious – providing richness and complexity in a much younger wine than its more expensive counterparts. His red Monthélie is an excitingly juicy, vibrant Burgundy that also drinks well young but has staying-power.
