France

France will always occupy a special place in our portfolio, being where it all began for us back in 1983. There is not, and will never be, anywhere quite like France; eccentric, idiosyncratic and unswervingly confident as it is in the ability of ‘terroir’ and tradition to continue to produce the world’s best wine in the face of ever-increasing competition.

The French are immensely proud of their heritage and with a winemaking history stretching back over 2000 years this is hardly a surprise. Yet while many remain close to their roots, the dynamism, passion and energy we find amongst this country’s winemakers is unprecedented and is increasingly reflected in the quality and diversity of the wines. And after thirty-two years we are still astonished by the extent of variety France has to offer.

We are also surprised just how many of France’s best winemaking regions, especially thoseof the Languedoc-Roussillon and the South West, remain oddly undiscovered, and continue in our mission to bring ever more exciting varieties from little known areas to your attention.

Champagne Pol Roger, Brut Rosé Vintage , 2008

Vintage
2008

An intense pink peppercorn colour with a fine stream of persistent bubbles. The nose has aromas of red fruits and summer berries. On the palate the first impression is freshness with notes of fragrant wild strawberry, this develops into creamy ripeness with a hint of vanilla. If the wine is allowed to blossom in the glass, a further layer of citrus aromas appears, with notes of grapefruit on the finish.

Champagne Pol Roger Blanc de Blancs, 2008

2008

The result is a champagne which is subtle, light and elegant, with a refreshing trace of minerality. Mid yellow in colour, it has a high toned and aromatically spiced nose, with some elements of crushed apple, revealing good fruit intensity and weight. It is stylish and bright on the palate, with good length and very pure acidity
