It’s ironic that the wine from one of Europe’s leading countries should suffer from an image-problem - a hangover from the excess quantities of bland Liebfraumilch that saturated export markets in the ‘70s and ‘80s. But there are now an increasing number of passionate winemakers taking the helm and aiming to re-establish the reputation of Germany and its magnificent Rieslings. With their low to moderate levels of alcohol, vibrant acidity and varying levels of sweetness, these are ideal wines to pair with increasingly popular spicy Asian cuisines. If you prefer a drier style, you will enjoy the Pfalz Rieslings, where fruit and body balance the acidity. In Mosel wines, however, you will find a truly dramatic contrast of mouthwatering acidity to sweetness and an explosion of fruit, blossom and honey aromas.
