South Africa
South Africa is one of the world’s most exciting wine-producing countries. Not only does it have a climatic range that can accommodate the ripening needs of vines as diverse as Grenache to Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, but it also has more than its fair share of people with a passion to produce world-beating wines. Where else would you find Cabernet Sauvignon of ‘Super-Second’ Claret quality rubbing shoulders with the world’s finest Chenin Blanc, or one of the best Pinots from outside Burgundy next to a Shiraz of Hermitage-like proportions?
Despite on-going political uncertainty and recent power cuts, it also has a range which is as diverse in style as it is consistent in scintillating quality, and this is confirmed in the 2008 Platter Guide to South African Wines, in which our range won lots of accolade amongst the 41/2 and 5 star selections.
