Lezcano-Lacalle

Cigales DO

Cigales DO is located close to Valladolid, on the Pisuerga river, a tributary of the Duero. Lezcano-Lacalle owns 16 ha of vineyards, which are the highest in the DO, at 800m above sea level. Felix Lezcano-Lacalle established the Bodegas in 1991 and has pioneered fine winemaking in the area, with the first production of reservas. Vineyards are planted with Tempranillo (locally known as Tinto Fino), Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon vines.

Reserva is a blend of Tinto Fino and Merlot, which is aged in Missouri oak barrels for 12 months after the first racking. A wine to drink now or over the next five years, Dú Reserva is a blend of Tinto Fino and Cabernet, which undergoes slow malolactic fermentation (6 months) in new barrels before barrel-ageing, as with the Reserva, for 12 months.
