Tasting Note

97/100, Master Award - Global Cabernet Sauvignon Masters 2018

From an area ideal for growing Cabernet grapes, this is a very accessible style. An inviting red wine that highlights Washington red fruit and gives plenty of complexity, structure and silky tannins. Also very versatile with food.

Food Recommendation

Blue cheese, beef, veal, and dark chocolate all pair well with this Cabernet. It is a wine that can cope with robust flavours like mustard, paprika, rosemary, thyme, cloves and ginger.

  • 97/100 - Master Award - one of just six out of 86 medal winners to achieve this distinction, as judged by a panel of eight Masters of Wine and one Master Sommelier. The panel comprised: Jonathan Pedley MW, Patrick Schmitt MW, Patricia Stefanowicz MW, Clement Robert MS, Alistair Cooper MW, Michelle Cherutti-Kowal MW, Victoria Burt MW, Philippa Carr MW, Robin Kinahan MW and Rupert Millar.

  • 95/100 - Editor-in-chief and db‘s resident MW, Patrick Schmitt, gave this serve 95 points finding it “inviting” on the nose with an aroma profile combining vanilla, olive and sweet black fruit, and notable Syrah aromas. On the palate, it is “balanced, interesting and layered”; the olive and black fruit sings through, with some toast and chocolate too.

    • The Drinks Business, 18th May 2019
    • Patrick Schmitt
  • This Gold Lister was ‘bursting with fruit, and very easy drinking’, according to Jim Bass of Scarlet Hotel, clearly impressed, while Woodhead 17’s James Fryer added praise for its ‘pure, sweet blueberry juice, with some decent acidity, too’. Team leader Martin Lam found plenty of ‘cherry fruit at first, but then savoury, and softening on the finish’, while Suave Wine’s Joseph Lunn spoke of ‘light toast and vanilla, with some subtle blackcurrant leaf, and some lasting texture’.
