Tasting Note

Wonderfully heady aromas of sweet spice, blackcurrant and vanilla. Very polished and bright on the palate, with super-fine tannins, richness and waves of cassis and black cherry fruit flavour. Plenty of fruit with licquorice on the finish - and yet, it is dry with elegance, enveloped in fine, soft oak, and finishing very long. Fantastic! Is reminiscent of Syrah grown in Châteauneuf du Pape but this gives way on the palate and reminds me more of good Claret, with incredible structure and big, rich texture. Made with the expertise of Hubert de Boüard, of Saint Emilion's famous Château Angélus. From prime vineyard sites at an altitude of about 1000m above sea level (hence the name).

Press

  • A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Caladoc, Syrah and Tempranillo, this is a beautifully integrated wine made with the help of Chateau Angelus’ Hubert de Boüard. Lifted cassis, capsicum, herbs and violets meld with silky tannins and fresh acidity. 91/100

  • Food-friendliness is also a quality I’ve come to expect in wines from the Lebanon, and again that probably shouldn’t come as a surprise given that the country is home to one of the world’s great cuisines and its winemaking scene has a pronounced French accent. The Gallic influence is explicit in this red blend thanks to the presence of winemaker Hubert de Boüard, who is better known for his work at top Bordeaux Château Angélus, and the wine has the cool herbal quality and crunchy blackcurrant of good Claret. There is a freshness, too, which may well have something to do with the name-inspiring altitude (1,000 metres) of the vines. If you’re looking ahead to Easter, and roast lamb, look no further.

  • This (unusual) red blend of Caladoc, Syrah, Tempranillo made with the help of St-Emilion's Hubert de Boüard (of Château Angélus) from vines grown at an altitude of 1,000 metres is refined and elegant, a pronounced streak of freshness giving verve and definition to the blackcurrant fruit, while the tannins are polished to a fine sheen. 90/100

Customer Reviews

  • Amazing flavours

I suppose when you first try a wine from the Lebanon you tend to compare everything to the world famous chateau Musar. Well think again: this wine was full-bodied with plenty going on; the blackberry notes standing out. It had great length and was so good that I wanted to drink the whole bottle [not wise], but wow what a wine! Excellent from start to finish and a great food wine with red meat [for me anyway] just a lovely wine.
