  • Old vine Garnacha with reach and ripeness

    Cruz de Piedra, Garnacha

    £7.95 reduced to... £7.00 + 10% off 12 bottles

Spicy forest fruits (redcurrants, blackberries) follow on from the ripe, fruity nose. Consistently one of our best value wines, with a good weight of fruit and light, perfectly weighted tannin. A wonderful Christmas party wine.

Brilliant reds include...Cruz de Piedra Garnacha, an old vine Garnacha with reach and ripeness; a real wine!

  • What will the Bath Rugby team be drinking this Christmas?

Staff, players and Season ticket holders from Bath Rugby were out in force in our shop last week, to select their top tipples for the Christmas season from the Great Western Wine range.  As a local business, we all support the club, and a selection of our wines are always on sale at the Rec on match days.

    Plan Early for Christmas!

    Angela Mount

It’s a known fact that 85% of wine bought for Christmas is left until the week before the Big Day. And with a million and one things to organize, it’s very easy to see why. But it’s actually an easy one to get ticked off the list early, if you follow a few basic guidelines; no rules, but there are styles of wine that naturally suit the rich feast that we will be serving up on the day. Here’s our simple guide to make your decisions easy!

  • A serious sparkling wine - fun to drink!

    Prosecco Brut Quartese, Ruggeri

    £14.95 reduced to... £13.95 + 20% off 6 Bottles

I love Prosecco. Soft, fruity, great value for money and easy to sip. This Prosecco Quartese is a serious player. Streaked with a persistent perlage of minute bubbles, this shows amazing intensity of yellow apple, perfumed quince and ripe nectarine aromas. A serious sparkling wine - fun to drink!

And here's what Decanter Magazine has to say:

Hands down, this is one of the top 5 Prosecco producers. Bright and bubbly, fresh and creamy yet balanced, this smorgasbord of white flowers and peach explains why.

  • Oz Clarke Top Wines for 2013

Quinta Do Crasto, Douro Red 2011

    £11.50 reduced to... £10.12

During this busy Christmas period, I'm cheating again, borrowing a recommendation. Having re-visited Portuguese red's, I thoroughly agree with Oz Clark that this is one of the stand out wines in the range.

"Quinta do Crasto has mastered the art of making red Douro table wine a thing of beauty, while its neighbours continue to overcomplicate and over-oak the stuff. This is an utter delight: scented with jasmine, bulging with ripe black plums, mulberry and blueberry fruit with the merest tug of chewy tannin, and as you swallow, back comes the jasmine."

  • Anthony Rose - DINNER PARTY

2008 Marqués de Riscal Rioja Reserva

    Anthony Rose - The Independent

    Dinner party recommendation

"Garnet and delightfully mature in its sweet, gamey aromas, this is a classic rioja blend of mostly tempranillo with dollops of graciano and mazuelo."

  • Inspirational wizardry from winemaker Ben Glaetzer

    Dolcetto Lagrein, Heartland, Langhorne Creek

One of our customers favourites, which has been put into our Christmas Offers list. I will let Matthew Jukes tell you more:

"A piece of inspirational wizardry from winemaker Ben Glaetzer, this blend of two of the most unusual grape varieties is a mercurial delight. Spicy and herbal notes punctuate the lusty blueberry and blackberry palate and it keeps you guessing with every sip."

  • Australian Magic – The tale of a true craftsman

Angela Mount meets legendary winemaker Sandro Mosele of Kooyong Estate, featured in Flavour Magazine.

I never drink my own wines at home; I drink other people’s wines, so that I am always exploring and learning; I want to be inspired’ . This quote from one of the world’s most respected winemakers, Sandro Mosele, says a great deal about the man himself. Inquisitive and intuitive, Sandro displays an incredible respect for nature and winemaking, and has an endearing humility about his own incredible achievements – a true craftsman, combining the practicality and logics of a scientist, with the flair of an artist.
