France

France will always occupy a special place in our portfolio, being where it all began for us back in 1983. There is not, and will never be, anywhere quite like France:  eccentric, idiosyncratic and unswervingly confident as it is in the ability of ‘terroir’ and tradition to continue to produce the world’s best wine in the face of ever-increasing competition.

The French are immensely proud of their heritage and with a winemaking history stretching back over 2000 years this is hardly a surprise. Yet while many remain close to their roots, the dynamism, passion and energy we find amongst this country’s winemakers is unprecedented and is increasingly reflected in the quality and diversity of the wines. And after thirty-five years we are still astonished by the extent of variety that France has to offer.

We are also surprised at just how many of France’s best winemaking regions, especially those of the Languedoc-Roussillon and the South West, remain oddly undiscovered, and continue in our mission to bring ever more exciting varieties from little known areas to your attention.

    An intense pink peppercorn colour with a fine stream of persistent bubbles. The nose has aromas of red fruits and summer berries. On the palate the first impression is freshness with notes of fragrant wild strawberry, this develops into creamy ripeness with a hint of vanilla. If the wine is allowed to blossom in the glass, a further layer of citrus aromas appears, with notes of grapefruit on the finish.
