Tasting Note

Pretty cherry and strawberry fruit on the nose. Beautiful juicy vibrancy in the mouth - it has very light tannin and crisp acidity, and it is overall soft yet classically dry. Absolutely delicious - we can't think of a better red wine to drink cool on a sunny day.

Product Information

  • Made by Pierre and Martine Chermette this is one of the most succulent, rewarding and authentic wines you could hope to find from this underrated region. Made from old vines, in the traditional method, using natural yeasts and no added sugar, this is the antithesis to the ridiculous Nouveau muck that gave us all headaches in the 80s and 90s. It is a hand-crafted, velvety, unfiltered, wistful, artisanal wine with masses of class and a tiny price point. Gamay is regarded as second class citizen in the grape hierarchy but this example is as alluring and noble as any Pinot Noir.

  • The tangy, salty goat’s cheese and fresh asparagus and pea puree have led me away from my normal choices for the Chamomile rack of lamb. This is a super-fresh, Spring dish, with more than a nod to the flavours of Southern France, which requires a lighter, fruity style of red. Step up the exuberant, and deliciously juicy Beaujolais Domaine du Vissoux, Vieilles Vignes 2015, which bursts with a riot of succulent strawberry and raspberry fruit, and a silky smooth finish – a lovely, bright, fragrant match, and a breath of summer in both the wine and the recipe.

  • Top notch Beaujolais is about as good as you can get for a bright, fruity, summery red, which is even better, when served slightly chilled. Much maligned, due to the plethora of thin, cheap horrors that appear far too often on supermarket shelves, this one gives a clarion call to remind us of all that is good from this bucolic, magical region. From the Gamay grape, it’s a glorious riot of concentrated Summer scents and flavours – a heady cocktail of strawberry, raspberry, and blackberry fruit, tinged with hints of wild herbs, and a velvety, silkily smooth finish. It entrances from the very first whiff of its mesmerizing scent. Chill it down, enjoy a glass on its own, or with charcuterie, herb-dusted, char-grilled chicken, and barbecued sausages – THE perfect holiday red.
