Tasting Note

Admitting to liking Moscato d’Asti feels like confessing a guilty secret. It’s sweet. It’s a bit fizzy. It doesn’t have much more alcohol than lager. It’s not a ‘proper’ wine. Oh, but it’s gorgeous, like sitting under a vine, popping juicy Muscat grapes into your mouth. Instead of orange juice with your smoked salmon and scrambled egg, you ought to have this.

Food Recommendation

Would pair perfectly with light, fruity desserts such as melon sorbet or with a mild blue cheese.

  • The epitome of Summer! Keep everything light with this deliciously fresh dessert by serving a similarly light, fragrant, yet sweet wine. Add sparkle with bubbles, but keep everything light, with this gently sweet Moncucco Moscato d”Asti. The sweet, honeysuckle aromas and heady, fragrant, freshly crushed grape flavours , work perfectly with this delightfully seasonal pud – and at a lowly 5.5% alcohol, it’s a great summertime treat.

  • From one of Piedmont’s top estates that was founded in the 19th century, this has pure, zingy, grapey aromas followed up by notes of peach and elderflower in the mouth. Delectable and long – what’s not to like?

  • This is a excellent example of a style of dessert wine I love: the very lightly sparkling, hugely aromatic Muscat from Piedmont in the northwest of Italy. With only 5.5% alcohol (which is typical for these wines) it is feather-light yet intense. There's the merest frothy frizzante on the tongue, but all those floral and herbal scents translate into flavour, that persists through to the shimmering, balanced finish. An absolute delight to sip, but matches with everything from the darkest chocolate puddings to fresh fruit desserts. 89/100.
