Chardonnay

Chardonnay is the world’s most famous white-wine grape, and for good reason.  It’s widely planted and robust, and is one of those varieties that winemakers love to work with, due to its malleable nature and generous flexibility – put simply, this is a grape that enjoys the deft hand of a skilled handler.  In some of its finest expressions, Chardonnay is crisp, refined and mineral (think Burgundy and more recently cool climate Australia), and from warmer climes, coupled with clever use of oak, you’ll be treated to bold, tropical notes with lashings of stone fruit and a gorgeous spine of acidity.  Describing the flavours of Chardonnay is a complex task…its expressions are so wide and varied, but by and large, it is delicious.  We have selected a great line-up here:  don’t be put off by 'Chardy' (it’s cooler than you think and seeing something of a renaissance!) – there is a Chardonnay for everybody, we can promise you this.
