Tasting Note

Deep, rich, savoury aroma of wild cherries over a complex medley of dried Provencale herbs, peppery spice, frankincense, cocoa and dried fruits (cranberry and black cherry). Succulent and velvet-textured, it is beautifully-balanced with fruit and herby-spicy complexity. This seems to have developed over recent months, and is ready to drink sooner than some reviewers predicted - delicious now and over the next 5-6 years.

  • Scored 96/100: Aromas of burnt orange peel and cherry with hints of dried bark and mahogany. Full-bodied and very tight and dense, with a beautiful fruit, tannin and acid balance. Finesse and strength. Best wine from here for ages. Needs until 2018 to show its true quality.

  • Scored 94/100: Fattoria dei Barbi's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino starts with a tightly wound personality that begins to unravel slowly, one delicate layer at a time. As it does, you become aware of dried fruit, cigar box, crushed mineral, plum, tar and cola. The wine puts on a beautiful display. I also loved the mouthfeel of this beautiful wine: It is tonic, tight and brimming with energy. Well-integrated oak notes give the wine a spot of softness and velvety spice. This is one beautiful Sangiovese. Stefano Cinelli Colombini has released a fine set of new wines and his base Brunello truly shines in the 2010 vintage. The wines are well priced and immediately attractive.

  • Scored 17+/20: Maturing mid ruby with narrow bricky rim. Iron and dark fruit on the nose with a hint of Moroccan leather. Fragrant and supple on the palate and with firm grainy tannins on the finish. A true classic.
