Malbec

Originally best known for its association with the region of Cahors in the south west of France, these days Malbec’s affiliation with Argentina is probably more widely acknowledged.  Despite having a resemblance in colour, it is quite difficult to find any other similarities between a Malbec produced in the rustic Cahors, and the more modern Argentine take on it.

You’ll often find a good Argentinian Malbec to be deep in colour, spicy, juicy, and rich.  With an almost velvety texture, and high fruit levels, it’s an easy wine to enjoy.

If you want to explore different regions, Chile are now also producing Malbec that is proving very successful.  There are some interesting wines coming from South Australia, with the popular blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon after Argentina’s success with combining the two.
