Merlot

Merlot

Merlot’s original home is on the right bank of Bordeaux, where it is one of the more important ingredients in many other wines from the area.  Its taste tends to be plummy, with a velvety texture that fills your mouth, and has a reputation for being plump and easy to drink.

Although a considerable amount of the worlds Merlot is grown in France, the north east of Italy is another area in which the grapes are widely planted, along with some excellent examples in California, Chile and Australia.

The quality of a Merlot can vary from simple, paler red wines to richer, more dense wines that have been blended with the likes of Cabernet and Sangiovese grapes.
