Bodega Cuarto Dominio

Bodega Cuarto Dominio is run by Javier Catena, 4th generation winemaker from the famous Catena family who have done so much to promote quality wine and Malbec in Argentina. Javier’s father Jorge (brother of Nicolas Catena of Bodega Catena Zapata) sold his shares in the family winery and kept the vineyards he considered the finest in order to pursue a smaller wine project. Cuarto Dominio is the result!

In over 100 years of wine production in Mendoza, the Catena family learned that higher altitudes in the Andes offered cooler vineyards sites yet with greater sun intensity. These conditions allow for a longer hang time for the grapes, as well as a more balanced maturation, yielding grapes with great concentration and perfect acidity. Today, the Cuarto Dominio vines are planted in the high altitudes of the Uco Valley, specifically in the San Carlos and Tupungato vineyards which are both around 1,000 metres above sea level.

Javier and Jorge believe in three key principles passed down through the generations: passion, patience and time; and this certainly shines through in the wines.
