Tasting Note

One of the most remakable wines we have ever tasted, and a fitting tribute to the Bogle family's extraordinary success over half a century. This is super-concentrated - full of dense, concentrated, jammy black cherry fruit and peppery spice, and an almost indescribable thick, velvety texture. An astounding wine, it has to be tried.

It was natural that the Bogle's 50th Anniversary release should be Petite Sirah, since Warren Bogle first planted 10 acres of it in the Sacramento Delta in 1968, and ten years later it was the first red wine bottled by the family.  It would become their signature red variety, to the extent that they have become the world's largest producer of Petite Sirah!

Handpicked from the family's estate Quick Ranch on Merritt Island, just a few miles down Elk Slough from their homestead, the grapes for this wine were selected for their quality and concentration.  “This Petite had dark, tightly formed clusters whose flavor was really outstanding,” says Eric Aafedt, Director of Winemaking. “We wanted to showcase the beauty and intensity of the Petite Sirah grape and make something that would age for a long time. Maybe not fifty years, but long enough.”

The wine was aged in French and American oak barrels for over 24 months, and additional bottle-ageing allowed the components to come together seamlessly.  Bottled in a limited edition silk screened bottle and finished with gold wax, only a very small amount of this outstanding wine was made.
