Domaine Gilles Robin

Crozes Hermitage

Gilles Robin seized the opportunity to make and bottle his own wine when the contract with the local co-operative ended in 1995. His talents as winemaker were immediately apparent when we took delivery of his first vintage in 1996, and the wines have only got better over the ensuing two decades – more alluringly spicy, more silky-textured and with greater depth and complexity. The vines are farmed organically, the fruit is picked by hand and Gilles’s underground winery allows gentle, gravitational handling of the juice and wines.

A few years after starting with a single cuvée of Crozes-Hermitage, Gilles added a version for early drinking, ‘Papillon’, in honour of his daughters, Léonie and Lucie. The white Crozes, ‘Marelles’ followed, then a superb red Saint Joseph, ‘André Péalat’. The most recent development is the addition of a magnificent Hermitage.
