Ken purchased the vineyard, here at the foot of the Helderberg, in 1993 as a family home, and since then has steadily upgraded and replanted to create not only a world-calss vineyard and winery but a super-comfortable wine lounge for tasting his delicious range while contemplating the mountains and getting to know the vineyard dogs: as great dog lovers, there are always about 6 pooches of varying breeds - rescue dogs, mostly - and some feisty Jack Russels too!

It is Ken Forrester's vision to improve the lot of his employees by growing the business sustainably and providing maximum job opportunities in a market that is desperate for support. This focus on sustainability extends to the vineyards where grapes are farmed sustainably with no herbicides or pesticides. The verdant vineyards are tilled by hand - hugely labour intensive, but very satisfying - and pruning, thinning and harvesting are all carried out by hand. This additional employment it is hoped goes some way to improving the quality of life in their community, and, as Ken states, "if every community looked after their own, no-one would go wanting."

Being recognised as the world’s top Chenin Blanc at the Decanter awards – with a score of 97 – is an endorsement of Ken’s continued commitment to producing world class Chenin, specifically from old vineyards.
