Mendoza

By far the largest and most renowned wine region in Argentina, Mendoza is responsible for approximately 70% of the country's total annual wine production. Its most famous product, undisputedly, is Malbec - traditionally a French varietal that has been refashioned as an Argentinian speciality, largely due to the quality of Mendoza's exports. Altitude is one of the most important characteristics of the region, with the majority of vineyards lying between 800 and 1200 metres above sea level. Cold westerly winds roll down through the vineyards from the Andes and cool the grapes, extending the growing season and contributing rich, ripe flavours.
