Tasting Note

This Shiraz is deep cherry red. On the nose black pepper, plum and cinnamon play with nutmeg and subtle oak notes. The palate is full of ripe red fruits and a medley of complex spices and integrated oak that lead to a velvety long finish.

Winemaking

This wine was fermented in high tech sweep-arm fermenters to maximise flavour and colour.
We fermented this wine at around 24˚ Celsius in stainless steel tanks to preserve primary fruit flavours.
We chose to use yeast strain AWRI 796 to ferment this wine because it exercises little influence over the fruit, allowing the natural
flavour characteristics of the Shiraz grapes to express themselves.
This wine was matured using new and old French and American oak.
A wine that lit up our Chief Winemaker’s eyes and exclaim “this is totally awesome”, this Shiraz has been blended with a small
component of Tempranillo (10 per cent) to add complexity and texture to the palate.

Press

  • Team leader Laurent Richet MS picked up ‘bacon and savoury aromas, notes of salted pork belly and lentils with prunes on a complex, textured palate’, and Robert Mason of Cheese at Leadenhall was impressed with its ‘juicy, aromatic, vibrant red and black berries on the nose, prune and fig with lots of anise notes and sweet plums’, rating it ‘versatile with red meats’.

  • It may say Shiraz on the label, but there’s 10% of Tempranillo here too. The pure, crunchy dark fruit on the nose and palate has been lifted by cracked black pepper, while the oak is well integrated indeed. A lovely wine at a fantastic price. 92/100

    • Decanter Magazine
  • I love this wine. It is been put together by a very thoughtful team. The crunchy, sour cherrytinged Shiraz has been cultivated in a cool climate atmosphere. This nubile, purple Shiraz is combined with a sloosh of 10% Tempranillo and already you are talking my language. With a mild-mannered 13.7% alcohol and a freshness of spice, pepper and light oaking on top, this wine is designed to be drunk rather than revered and the price is going to encourage this pursuit. Victorian Shiraz has a very different palate shape to South Australian Shiraz. A refreshing, vital nature is its trump card. You rarely see these qualities at this competitive price because most wineries are too small to benefit from economies of scale, so make sure you taste this lovely, bright wine – as the label says, Are You Game?
