France

France will always occupy a special place in our portfolio, being where it all began for us back in 1983. There is not, and will never be, anywhere quite like France; eccentric, idiosyncratic and unswervingly confident as it is in the ability of ‘terroir’ and tradition to continue to produce the world’s best wine in the face of ever-increasing competition.

The French are immensely proud of their heritage and with a winemaking history stretching back over 2000 years this is hardly a surprise. Yet while many remain close to their roots, the dynamism, passion and energy we find amongst this country’s winemakers is unprecedented and is increasingly reflected in the quality and diversity of the wines. And after thirty-two years we are still astonished by the extent of variety France has to offer.

We are also surprised just how many of France’s best winemaking regions, especially thoseof the Languedoc-Roussillon and the South West, remain oddly undiscovered, and continue in our mission to bring ever more exciting varieties from little known areas to your attention.
