Tasting Note

This wine, obtained from some of ther oldest vines in Valdobbiadene; ancient glera, verdiso, bianchetta and perera vines. It is an extraordinarily subtle though lively, elegant and unique wine, of which less than 5,000 bottles are made annually. “Vecchie Viti” translates as "Old Vines", a reference to the fruit of grapes coming from 80-100 year old vines scattered all over the hills of Valdobbiadene’s territory and not from a single vineyard. To produce this wine Ruggeri works with numerous farmers, owners of the best vineyards in San Pietro, Santo Stefano, Cartizze, Guia and Saccol.

Winemaking

On the slopes of the first Dolomite spurs, in the northern part of the province of treviso, from selected grapes in the best crus of the high Valdobbiadene hills. the grapes are harvested during the first half of October and are fermented without skins at the controlled temperature of 20 degrees. The 'sparkle' occurs in the spring after the harvest, by slow second fermentation in closed containers at 12-14 degrees and are in contact with the lees for approx. 3 months.

Press

  • “The Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Vecchie Viti Brut is made from the oldest vines (some more than a century old) found in the Valdobbiadene territory. This is a fantastic expression that boasts an outstandingly high level of brightness and definition. Drying mineral notes create contours for mildly fragrant layers of peach and blanched almond. The wine should hold for a few more years although it is best consumed in the immediate term.” 91/100

  • Mineral nose, with hints of citrus and accacia and a faint grassiness. Very long, fine perlage. Intense, dry, mouthwatering palate – dynamic, a
little austere, very pure. Old vines length and concentration on the finish. Great personality.

  • Outstanding finesse year by year. Ace expression, flowers and fruit.
